table lamp c501

created for oxide
presented by locki humphrey, in collaboration with craft victoria

oxide presented a collection of production ready, limited release and one-off pieces (furniture, lighting and objects) focusing on material transformation. Working with industrial remnants, the series reflects on scarcity and the potential of repurposing discarded resources through a focused, process-led approach.

table lamp c501 uses a process of flocking, shredding and forming recycled textile fibers to create a formed ‘paper’ lampshade. This shade is formed from old white cotton + linen sheets, which have been torn down to fibers, combined with starching agents and meticulously formed over a steel mesh guide to create a three-dimensional form devoid of seamlines.

the fabric shade has been hardened with recycled candle wax, and sits atop a reclaimed victorian ash base which has been stained using an iron oxide suspension which was derived from scrap metal.

The lamp has a central waxed steel frame and a linen cable, with an aluminium dimmer switch and e27 LED bulb.
