This decorative room screen is constructed from over a kilometre of Danish cord, hand-woven around a bespoke powder-coated steel frame. Sustainably sourced Spotted Gum from Crafted Hardwoods is finished with a natural beeswax and carnauba blend, and fitted with recycled felt gliders to support the three pivoting panels.
Small room screens have long been used in religious and ceremonial contexts as thresholds between the divine and the ordinary, their use spanning across a range cultures and faiths for more than two thousand years. Drawing on this heritage, the woven composition references religious iconography through two abstract sunburst forms that flank a restrained central weave with a trio of patterns; a woven triptych.
